Manumission Negro Sarah From James Selby Senr.
Know all men by these presents that I James Selby of Kent County in the state of Delaware Farmer for divers good causes and considerations me hereby moving hath manumitted emancepated liberated and set free and by these presents doth manumitt emancepate liberate and set free the following negro woman slave to me the said James Selby to wit Negro Sarah, the said Sarah to be and considered as free and at her liberty immediately after the date of these presents and I hereby reserve to my self my heirs Executors administrators and assigns the service and labour of the said Sarah, until the expiration of five years after which time the said Sarah shall be deemed & considered a free woman & enjoy all the previleges and emunities that a free Negro or a free mulatto may or can injoy by the Laws of this state In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the ninth day of September 1811. State of Delaware Kent County Ss} Be it Remembered that James Selby personally appeared before me John Lowber one of the Justices of the peace for said County and acknowledge the within Manumition to be his act and Deed for the use and purpose therein mentioned Given under my hand and seal at Dover the tenth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eleven 1811.
