Manumission Negro Sam From John Clifton.

Know all Men by these presents that I John Clifton of the County of Kent & State of Delaware, for divers good causes and considerations me hereinto moving, do hereby Manumit enfranchise and absolutely set Free, my Negro Boy named Sam, of dark complection some pock marked, to be perfectly free, and at his full liberty, from and after the expiration of fourteen years from and after the first day of February Eighteen Hundred and Eight at the expiration of which term of fourteen years afsd. the said Sam will be Thirty years of age, And do hereby warrant and defend the Liberty and freedom of the said Negro Boy named Sam, from the lawfull claim of me or my heirs, Executors or administrators any other person or persons claiming by from or under me without reservation, after the expiration of the afsd. term of fourteen years from & after the first day of February afsd. Witness my hand & seal this third day of September Eighteen hundred & seven 1807. John Clifton {seal}

State of Delaware Kent County } Personally appeared before me the Subscriber one of the Justices of the Peace in & for the said County John Clifton the same person who subscribed the above Manumission of Negro Sam, and acknowledged the same to be his act & Deed, in due form of law. this 3 Septr. 1807.
