Manumission Negro Sally from Joseph Barker Esquire

Know all men by these presents, That I Joseph Barker of Pittsburgh, in the state of Pennsylvania, Esquire, from motives of benevolence and humanity, have manumitted enfranchised and set free from slavery, and do hereby manumit enfranchise and set free from slavery my negro female slave named Sally, or Sally Barker; reserving nevertheless to my self my Executors administrators and assigns the person labour and services of the said Sally for and during and until the full end and term of twelve years & six months now next ensuing and following and fully to be complete and ended and it is hereby expressly understood that for the person labour and services of the said Sally, for and during the term aforesaid, I, the said Joseph Barker, am in no shape to be held liable or accountable or wages or compensation: And I do hereby give grant and release unto the said Sally all my right title and claim of in and to her person labour and service, and of in and to the Estate and property which she may hereafter acquire or obtain, excepting only her person labour and services reserved in manner and during the term above mentioned. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and seal this seventeenth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine. Jos. Barker {seal}

State of Delaware Kent County } Be it remembered that on this seventeenth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine came before me Andw. Barratt one of the Judges of the Court of Common Pleas of the State of Delaware afsd. Joseph Barker party to the above deed of manumission and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed agreeable to the true intent and meaning of the same.
