Manumission Negro Rachel & others from Jos: Whitby
Know all men by these presents that I Joseph Whitby of Duck Creekhundred Kent County State of Delaware being convinsed of the impropriaty of slavery do manumit and set free the slave negroes to be herein after mentioned and named as follows. Viz. Rachel aged thirty years December last past, & to be free December the thirtieth one thousand eight hundred & seven. Juley aged nine years August last past & to be free August one thousand eight hundred & nineteen. Rachel aged three years March last past & to be free one thousand eight hundred and twenty five. Amey aged one year March last past & to be free March one thousand eight hundred & twenty seven. hereby relinquising and yealding clame to the above named negroes slaves after they shall arive at the age or period as severally mentioned from me my heirs executors administrators and of all and every person or persons clameing by from or under me as Witness my hand and seal this tenth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & six. Kent County Sst April 10, 1806 } I do certify that Joseph Whitby appeared before me John Lowber one of the Justices of the peace for said county and acknowledged the within manumission as his act and deed for the use and purpose therein mentioned. J. 20C. John Lowber
