Manumission Negro Philip Brinkley from Amos Flemng

Know all men by these presents that I Amos Fleming of Murderkill Hundreds in Kent County in the state of Delaware do think it wrong and oppressive to hold negroes in abject slavery. Have and by these presents Do manumate and set free to all intents and purposes my negro boy named Philip Brinkley formerly the property of Jonathan Wallace deceased which I purchased of Micajah Greenfield Constable at the suit of Henry M. Godwin on a distraint for rent against Amanda Wallace which boy I sold to John and William Torbert as more fully appear by a bill of sale made to them bearing date the sixteenth day of March now last past when he the said Philip shall arrive to the age of twenty one years he being now six years and five months old and the freedom of the said Philip from me my heirs Executors and administrators and from all and every other person or persons claiming or hereafter to claim the said boy Philip by through or under me my heirs executors and administrators or either of them their heirs executors or administrators will Warrant and forever defend by these presents As Witness my hand and seal the twenty sixth day of June one thousand eight hundred and nine. State of Delaware Kent County Ss. } I hereby certify that on this twenty sixth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine personally came Amos Fleming party to the within manumission before me Benj. Brady one of the Justices of the Peace for said county and acknowledged the within and forgoing manumission to be his act and deed and delivered the same for the use and purposes therein mentioned.
