To all whom it may concern. This is to certify that I James Jones of Duck creek hundred in Kent County & State of Delaware do hereby manumit, release and set free me negroe boy Joseph aged nine years and six months old after he shall have served me, my heirs, executors, administrators or assigns eighteen years and six months, and that on the twenty second day of august in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty one and then said negro Joseph is his own man and that he is free from me, my heirs, executors & admrs., and for a further confirmation thereof it is my request that this manumission should be recorded in the Recorder’s office. In Testimony of which I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty second day of february in the hear of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and three. 1803. James Jones {seal}
