Manumission negro James Hull from Edward Joy
Know all men by these presents that I Edward Joy of Duck Creek hundred & County of Kent state of Delaware do mancepate set free my negrow man named James Hull who I purchased from Isaack Truax for life that was formerly born the slave of William Murphy as witness my hand & seal this seventeenth day of April one Thousand eighteen hundred and eleven. State of Delaware Kent County Ss. } I Nathaniel Smithers one of the Justices of the peace in and for Said County hereby certify that Edward Joy personally appeared before me and did acknowledge the above Instrument of writing to be his act and deed for the uses intents and purposes therein specified In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand & affixed my seal the Seventeenth day of April one Thousand eight hundred and eleven.
