Manumission Negro James from Peter Lowber

Know all men by these presents that I Peter Lowber of Kent County in the state of Delaware doth hereby manumit Emancipate liberate & set Free a Certain Negro Man named James the Slave of me the said Peter Lowber, and from and after the date of there presents I hereby declare the said James to be a Free man to all intents and purposes. In Witness whereof I have hereto set my hand & affixed my seal the Eighth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight Hundred And four. Peter Lowber {seal}

Sealed & Delivered In Presence of: Thos. Dunning, Nathl. Smithers

State of Delaware Kent County} I hereby Certify that Peter Lowber personally appeared before me Nathaniel Smithers one of the Justices of the peace for said County and did acknowledge the above manumission as his act & deed for the Uses intents & purposes therein mentioned according to the purport and Effect thereof, In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand & affixed my Seal the Eighth day of September in the Year of our Lord one thousand Eight Hundred & four.
