Manumission Negro James from Jacob Biddle

Know all men by these presents that I Jacob Biddle of the Village of Milford in the County of Kent & State of Delaware for divers good causes and considerations me hereunto moving Do hereby manumit enfranchise & absolutely set free A certain Negro Boy named James to be free and at his perfect liberty at the expiration of seven years from and after the date hereof which will be on the first day of July in the year one thousand eight Hundred and twenty one, for and during which time I have sold said Negro James unto Philip D Phidamon, and I said Jacob Biddle do hereby warrant and defend the liberty and Freedom of the above named Named Negro Boy James from and after the said first day of July eighteen hundred and twenty one from the lawful claim or claims of me my heirs executors or administrators or every other person or persons claiming or to claim from or under me In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this first day of July Eighteen Hundred and fourteen 1814. State of Delaware Kent County} Personally appeared before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace in and for the said County Jacob Biddle the same whose name is signed to the above manumission and acknowledged the same to be his act and Deed according To the true intent and meaning thereof – in due form of law In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand & Seal this 20 day of July AD 1814 Jas.
