Manumission Negro Isaac & Jimboy from William Hughlett
Know all men by these presents and whome it may concern, That on the Twenty fourth day of January one thousand eight hundred and three, I William Hughlett of Kent County in the State or Delaware did purchase at Sherriffs sale Jonathan Manlove then Sherriff at the sale of the personal Estate of George Cubbage deceased. One negro man named Isaac, aged about Twenty nine years and one negroe Boy named James aged nine years, for the sum of one hundred and ten pounds current money. And being willing and dissirous that all men shold become free I the said William Hughlett do hereby manumitt Emansipate Liberate and Sett free Negroe Isaac, Reserving to myself my heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns his service and labour untill the twentifourth day of January one thousand eight hundred and nine and also upon condition that ^the^ aforesaid negroe Isaac shall not abscond or absent himself from me or my heirs Executors administrators or assigns, but render his proper obedience as a servant shold do_to do no damage nor suffer any to be done_ but in case of any damage or injury on his part, the same shall be made good by his further reasonable service_ so as to make good all cash or damage_ and it is on this express condition I Execute this manumission_ I also do hereby manumitt Emansipate Liberate an Set Free negroe James, now known by the name of Jimboy. Reserving to myself my heirs Executors administrators or assigns, his service and labour for and during the Term of twenty one years and twenty eight days which will be Ended on the twentifourth day of January one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight. 1828_ And also upon this express condition that the said negroe Jimboy shall conduct himself as a servant aught to do_ and render his proper service and labour as aforesaid Reserved, and in case of his non compliance he shall make full satisfaction by his further service and labour, after the term aforesaid so as to make good all cash and damage, and it is upon this express condition, I Execute this manumission. Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of James Johnson Junr,
Kent County State of Delaware, January 3d 1807_ William Hughlett appeared before one the subscriber one of the Justices of the Peace, for Kent County, and acknowledged the within manumission to be his act and Deed, and dissir’d the same may be Recorded, In Testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and affix my seal the day and year first above written.
