Manumission Benjamin Wallace to Negro Adam Craig.
Know all men by these presents that I Benjamin Wallace of Kent County in the State of Delaware for divers good causes and considerations me hereunto moving, hath manumitted emancipated liberated and set free and by these presents doth manumit liberate emancipate and set free and at full liberty my slave Negro Man named Adam Craig – And I the said Benjamin Wallace hereby declare that from and immediately after the signing and sealing of these presents the said Adam Craig shall be deemed and considered a free Man to all intents and purposes and shall be capable of enjoying all the rights and privileges that a free Negro or Mulatto may or can enjoy in the said State of Delaware In Witness whereof I the said Benjamin Wallace have hereunto set my hand and affixt my seal the thirteenth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirteen. Kent County SS I Nathaniel Smithers one of the Justices of the peace of the State of Delaware for said County of Kent hereby certify that the above named Benjamin Wallace personally appeared before me the said Justice and did acknowledge the above Instrument of writing or manumission as his act and deed for the uses and purposes therein mentioned – In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixt my seal the thirteenth day of august in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirteen.
