Know all men by these presents that I James Sykes Physician of the State of Delaware & County of Kent do manumit and do set free my negroes Girl Hannah and her two children Fanny and Ann whom I have lately sold to Joshua Shockly for a term of years, of the State and County afsd now living on the farm lately owned by Thomas J Macoombe and now the property of the heirs of the said Macoombe in the following manner that is to say Hannah to be free in ten years the  first day of July last Fanny to be free in twenty two years from the twenty fifth day of December next and Ann to be free in twenty five years from the twentieth day of may Last and I do hereby for my Self my Executors and Administrators release the said Hannah Fanny and Ann after the above periods by their respective servitudes shall have expired, and forever quit claim to them. In Witness whereof I have hereto set my hands and affixed my seal this twentieth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fourteen 1814. James Sykes {seal}
